Remarkable Moments
Leaving a Lasting Legacy

Upon their passing in 2020, sisters Florence and Eva Boyt left their combined $2.5 million dollar estate to the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Forbes Hospital Cancer and Cardiology departments.

To date, this planned gift has helped to expand the Forbes Cardiovascular Institute’s vascular services and enable the purchase of new equipment such as a transesophageal echo, an ultrasound machine for the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, a Flo Trac system, and more.

The AHN Forbes Cancer Institute has invested in two ultrasound machines, an MRI breast coil used for early breast cancer detection, and general equipment for radiation and surgical oncology.

Florence and Eva’s generous gift has helped elevate and enrich the innovative care that can be found at AHN Forbes Hospital. You, too, can build a sustainable future for our hospitals, institutes, and more with planned bequests and legacy gifts.

Final Golf Outing Supports
Ovarian Cancer Research at AHN

McMullens

Seven years ago, Michael (Mac) and Julie McMullen began hosting the Allegheny Chapman Golf Outing to support ovarian cancer research at AHN. On Thursday, August 24, the McMullens hosted their final Golf Outing with more than 160 golfers and opened their home the next evening for nearly 500 concertgoers for a private concert featuring Niko Moon, with opening act Sofa Kings. Proceeds from these events further the McMullens' mission of funding research to change ovarian cancer outcomes for more women.

On behalf of Highmark Health, AHN, the McMullen family, and Allegheny Chapman volunteers, we are grateful for the years of dedication and generosity from the many sponsors and participants.

More Than 20,000 Women Will Be Diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in the U.S. This Year

Gifts made this month in recognition of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month to the AHN Women’s Institute’s Division of Gynecological Oncology will play a vital role in the health outcomes for women in our community. Led by Thomas Krivak, MD, the AHN Women’s Institute’s Division of Gynecological Oncology offers state-of-the-art research and advanced training programs that allow us to provide the most innovative care for patients.

Thanks to support from generous donors, these research projects have dramatically increased over the past five years. The results define better ways to preserve ovarian function in young women so their cancer diagnosis may not render them infertile but frees them to live their best lives once cured.
