A Message from Dr. David Bartlett |
|
I joined Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute (AHNCI) as chair in 2020 with the vision to transform cancer care. I am deeply honored to lead and continue to help advance this distinguished and vital program in an organization that puts the health of patients and communities at the center of every equation.
On behalf of AHNCI, we are grateful for our steadfast and loyal donors. Your dedication is integral to expanding and enhancing patient programs, services, facilities, and amenities as well as innovative cancer research.
Philanthropy is critical to the future success, innovation, and growth of AHNCI. Every dollar counts, and we are thankful for the continued philanthropic partnerships from our grateful patients, corporations, foundations, and community members who support our vision.
I am pleased to share a few stories of your impact on AHNCI. I invite you to connect with us to learn more about the high-level, individualized care you made possible.
David L. Bartlett, MD Chair, AHN Cancer Institute

Partnering to Support Access to Cancer Care |
|
When Tim Metzler was diagnosed with leukemia, he needed treatment over two and a half hours away from home. He and his wife stayed not once but twice at the Family House, located only a few blocks from the hospital, completely free of charge. Through the support of the American Cancer Society and generous donors like you, cancer patients receive funding for transportation and lodging, alleviating financial burdens and stress during their treatment.

Remarkable Research |
|
Cancer research has the power to touch, change, and save lives. Because of philanthropic support to the Susan J. and David L. Bartlett, MD, Cancer Research Fund from generous donors, AHN researchers are exploring innovative research that improves the way we practice medicine and oncology. With these donations, AHNCI’s mission and vision for providing better cancer care will continue to expand.

Funding New Therapies to Treat Cancer |
|
Critical philanthropic funding from foundations like The Pittsburgh Foundation supports AHNCI in transforming cancer care in our communities. The Pittsburgh Foundation awarded AHNCI a grant to research and analyze new treatments of T- and B-cell lymphomas. The grant supports the first three patients enrolled in AHN’s Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy clinical trial.

Working Toward a World Without Cancer |

Susan Evans not only survived her battle with cancer, but she also went on to write a book with the help of Thomas Krivak, MD, Director of the Ovarian Cancer Center of Excellence and Co-Chair of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology Research Institute, about her experience. The sales from the book, "Don't Write the Obituary Yet," benefit the Evans-Krivak Gynecological Cancer Research and Education Fund.
