Hats Off to Ron

Bruce Altemus was “very fortunate to get a second chance at life” after receiving a donor liver at AHN Allegheny General. Determined to fulfill his post-transplant goal to complete a 5K, Bruce and members from his transplant team successfully finished the Pittsburgh Great Race 5K. To pay it forward to future patients, Bruce raised funds for a nonprofit called Hats Off to Ron that provides financial help to other AHN Allegheny General liver transplant recipients. Bruce recently presented a check for $1,510 to Joanne Vranesevic, who started the fund in memory of her husband, Ronald A. Jackson.

AHN has a longstanding tradition of giving patients staying at an AHN hospital during the holiday a beautiful ceramic white turtle dove ornament at their bedside. The ornament reminds patients of the thoughtfulness and generosity from their neighbors during the holidays and all year long.

Dr. Vicenta Gaspar-Yoo, AHN Allegheny Valley president, donor, and community leader, was named to The Top 100 Women Leaders in Medicine of 2021 by Women We Admire. Dr. Gaspar-Yoo was recognized for breaking into new territories as the first female practicing physician president of an AHN hospital.
