Opening Doors for Better Health

Many health challenges faced by our community members can be attributed to or exacerbated by issues such as food insecurity, domestic violence, homelessness, limited access to transportation, and a host of other issues. The Front Door Initiative for Social Emergency Medicine at Jefferson Hospital is a comprehensive effort to better understand and address these social determinants of health among patients who visit the hospital’s emergency department. Funded through a 4-year, $1 million grant from the Jefferson Regional Foundation—the largest in the Foundation’s historythe project serves the 50,000+ patients that visit the Jefferson Hospital Emergency Department each year.

With generous support from our sponsors, guests, and nearly 160 golfers, the 2021 Allegheny Chapman Golf Outing and Concert featuring Michael Franti and Spearhead raised more than $300,000 for ovarian cancer research. On September 2-3, Julie and Michael McMullen hosted the sixth annual event as an appreciation to the team of doctors who supported Julie during her ovarian cancer diagnosis 15 years ago. Julie is now cancer-free and the mother to three amazing children! A special thank you to all of this year’s event sponsors.
