New Mobile Health Van Brings Critical Care to Communities

AHN's new 37-foot mobile OB-GYN clinic brings vital women's health care directly to underserved communities. The clinic, funded by a federal grant secured by former U.S. Rep. Connor Lamb and through partnerships with First Steps and Beyond, offers complete prenatal and gynecologic care in McKeesport, Charleroi, Clairton, Braddock and McKees Rocks. This service is a crucial step toward health equity. Black women in Allegheny County face a maternal death rate of 91 per 100,000 births, much higher than the national rate of 22.3 per 100,000 births.

Highmark Health Names Mark Sevco as President of Allegheny Health Network

Highmark Health announced that Mark Sevco, chief operating officer of Sutter Health in Northern California, has been appointed president of Allegheny Health Network (AHN). He will officially join the organization at the end of March. As COO of Sutter, Sevco helped expand access to care, enabling Sutter to serve more than 3.5 million patients in 2024, while also reducing employee and physician turnover and increasing employee engagement.

AHN Allegheny General Hospital Earns Elite Status for Heart-Cancer Care

AHN Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) has been named a Gold-Level Center of Excellence by the International Cardio-Oncology Society, joining just 14 other gold-level institutions worldwide. Led by Valentyna Ivanova, MD, and Christie J. Hilton, DO, the AGH Cardio-Oncology Center brings together experts from the AHN Cardiovascular and Cancer Institutes to care for patients whose cancer treatment may affect their heart health. This specialized care is available at AGH, the Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion and through virtual appointments.

A History of AHN Saint Vincent Hospital: 1920s

The first quarter of the 20th century at AHN Saint Vincent was marked by the expansion of facilities, medical innovations and a vision of future growth, resulting in better health care for the community. By 1925, the first nurses’ home was constructed. Until this time, young girls in the training program lived at home or in a suitable residence in the hospital area. The home erected for them eliminated this problem and added to the efficiency of the training program.
